Make the Most of High School (and have fun doing it)
5 steps that pave the way to success

You may not know it yet, but you're having the time of your life right now. I know what you're thinking: "She's got to be kidding. She's talking about having the time of my life in an article about school? Not a chance. She must be crackers."

Alright, so not everyone in high school is having the time of his or her life. As a matter of fact, the number of high schoolers who are having the time of their lives is in the definite minority. However, that minority is made up of people who are doing something right, and whose high school experiences will act as doorways into worlds where they really will have the time of their lives. Not to brag, but right now I feel that I'm part of that lucky minority. Interested in joining me? Here's how…

My first piece of advice, and the key to everything else, is: believe in yourself. It may sound cliché, but the funny thing about clichés is how they got to be that way: they were so true that people overused them. If you have enough determination to achieve your goals, there is nothing that can stand in your way. Even if your confidence is low right now, smaller accomplishments can be stepping-stones to larger ones as you begin to discover what you really can do.

That said, step number two is: think about what you want out of high school, and then plan on how to get it. Everyone wants something different, since everyone wants to go somewhere different once it's over. What you have to do now is think about what you enjoy and are good at. Ask yourself questions like: What's my favorite subject? What’s my best subject? What activities do I love to do, or would I like to learn? Also, contemplate things you'd like to improve - for example, is there a grade you want to bring up? An area where you feel you're lacking? High school is a time for change, so set goals according to what you want to change about yourself. Play to your strengths, but also try to improve your weaknesses.
